Brian Molko : biography

10 December 1972 –

After this tour the group was missing for three years – the forth album, which was called “Sleeping With Ghosts”, appeared only in March of 2003 and caused a double reaction. It was clear, that from the professional point of view musicians had grown up, and all their experiments turned out to be successful. But the lyrics didn’t have black romantics, double meaning or nervous philosophy. Impenetrable melancholy was replaced with the hope for the future, nostalgia and appeals not to unfaithful to yourself. High quality of music didn’t help fans of “Placebo” – the album only vaguely reminded about the art of former startling musicians.

For Brian Molko the group “Placebo” became not only the one work in his life, but the basis of life, realization of himself and his ambitions. Appearing in front of fans in the image of Lady-boy, causing admiration of some people and rejection of others, this musician had gone a rather banal way from youth liking for rock to the tops of fame – including treatment from drug addiction. The press described his confessions in bisexuality and cocaine, and several years later was disappointed with his dying eccentricity. But Brian didn’t become a brutal macho, even when he grew older. Even a definitely serious relationship with a photographer Helena Berg, who made “Placebo” covers, didn’t prejudice former image.

Helena appeared in musician’s life in a very difficult period in 2002 and stayed with him for a long time. Brian, who always called himself an inveterate bachelor, didn’t want to marry officially, and even the birth of his son Cody in October of 2005 didn’t change his decision. Though, his son, even unplanned, occupied a huge place in the musician’s heart. In 2009 Brian and Helena announced that they had broken up, but there wasn’t any scandal about bringing up of Cody, and the couple still maintain rather friendly relationships. It is interesting, that Brian Molko called guitars the best women for him and even gave them names. There is another woman, who has been with the musician since his birth – the one he could have been born, according to his words, who lives inside Brian and sometimes appears very vividly.

Brian some time said that there were two steps from a rock-star to a mentally ill person. Probably, he was right, or stars weren’t stars… The incredible voice and unquestionable talent of Brian Molko attract many admirers nowadays, because this musician remains not only the star of English rock, but undoubtedly one of the most mysterious and talented persons in the history of music.
