Henry Maske : biography

Henry Maske (born January 6, 1964 in Treuenbrietzen, Brandenburg) is a retired German boxer, and one of Germany’s most popular sports figures.

Amateur career

Maske was an Olympic Gold Medalist 1988 in Seoul (middleweight) for East Germany. His results were:

  • Defeated Helman Palije (Malawi) 5-0
  • Defeated Sello Mojela (Lesotho) walk-over
  • Defeated Michele Mastrodonato (Italy) 5-0
  • Defeated Chris Sande (Kenya) 5-0
  • Defeated Egerton Marcus (Canada) 5-0

In addition, Maske won the 1989 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Moscow and the silver medal at the 1986 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Reno.

Comeback

After an 11 year retirement, he avenged his only defeat as a professional against Virgil Hill. The fight was held on March 31, 2007, in Munich, Germany. Maske won by unanimous decision after 12 rounds.

Pro career

During his career, Maske was a five-time boxing champion of East Germany. After reunification in 1990, he turned professional, and became the IBF world title holder in the light heavyweight category on 20 March 1993.
