Glenn McMillan : biography

5 October 1984 –

Glenn Aguiar McMillan (born 5 October 1984) is a Brazilian-Australian actor and lawyer.

Glenn McMillan was born in the small town of São João da Boa Vista, São Paulo, Brazil. The town is also the birthplace of his mother, and the place where his parents met, when his Australian father was posted there as an exchange student as a teenager. He has two older sisters. The McMillan family moved to Adelaide, Australia, when Glenn was only four years old, however he considers himself to be strongly connected to his Brazilian heritage and revisits his birthplace often. He is perhaps best known for his role as Dustin Brooks on Power Rangers Ninja Storm.

McMillan’s first professional acting role was at age 11, in a State Theatre Company of South Australia production of Six Characters in Search of an Author, by Luigi Pirandello, playing the role of the "Young Boy". McMillan has stated that, while he enjoyed performing on stage at this age, he found the role to be quite traumatic. McMillan attended Linden Park School & Pembroke School in Adelaide, Australia, where he developed his interest in acting. He studied drama at school and enrolled in a training course for performers after school. While at Pembroke, he played in numerous school productions, including playing the role of "Jack" in Into the Woods, by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, and "Vyasa" in an adaptation of the Mahabharata, for which he was awarded a 100% grade in his State assessment. At school, McMillan also became heavily involved in music, and played saxophone and bass in various school ensembles, including playing on stage with Australian jazz legends James Morrison and Don Burrows.

During his high school education, McMillan continued acting professionally, while receiving on-set tutoring. In 1998, he played the part of "Ben Handleman" in his first feature film, Sally Marshall Is Not an Alien, and "Tiny Maloney" in the television series, ‘Chuck Finn’. In 2002, a few months prior to completing his high school education, McMillan was offered the role of "Dustin Brooks" in Power Rangers Ninja Storm. He took the role on condition that he could sit his final exams in New Zealand, where the production took place. McMillan followed Power Rangers with a role in the Disney production "Zenon: Z3", filmed on location in South Africa, before returning to New Zealand to play in Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

In 2004, McMillan chose to take time away from acting to further his education. Despite having been awarded a scholarship to study at Bond University, he returned to Adelaide to study law at University of Adelaide Law School and considered studying jazz at the University’s conservatorium of music. During his law studies, he was chosen to participate in the University’s international exchange program and studied for a semester at Pace University School of Law in White Plains, New York, where he was particularly interested in Entertainment and Media Law, Intellectual Property and the First Amendment to the US Constitution. McMillan graduated with Honours from Adelaide University and qualified as an Australian Lawyer in 2009. In 2010, he took a job in London with a prestigious law firm, specialising in media litigation, and completed his exams for qualification as a lawyer in England and Wales. While living in London, McMillan began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, under world champion, Roger Gracie.

He currently lives in Sydney, Australia, where he continues training as an actor.
