Asaduddin Owaisi : biography

Asaduddin Owaisi ( Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is an Indian politician and President of the party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Since 2008. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Hyderabad constituency in Lok Sabha Lower House of the Indian Parliament.

On Radicalization of Muslim Youth

Owaisi made the Parliament aware that in his view "if proper rehabilitation does not take place, you be ready for a third wave of radicalization among Muslim youth", while participating in a discussion on August 8, 2012 on the 2012 Assam violence.

Early life

Asaduddin Owaisi was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, was an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, for six consecutive terms. Assad is an Hyderabad Public School alumni and subsequently did his Intermediate from St. Mary’s Junior Collage, Hyderabad. He graduated in "Bachelor of Arts" from Nizam Collage, Osmania University. For higher studies he left for London where he studied L.L.B, and Barrister-at-Law (Lincolns Inn), England. He is often referred as Naqeeb-e-Millat (Leader of the community) by his supporters. He has two younger brothers, Akbaruddin Owaisi and Burhanuddin Owaisi. Akbar is the member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency while Burhanuddin is the editor of the local Urdu daily "Etemad".

Surrender relating to a 2005 case

On 20 January 2013, Asaduddin Owaisi surrendered before the Sangareddy court in Medak district and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Asaduddin was later shifted to Sangareddy jail. The case dates back to March 16, 2005, when Asaduddin and Akbaruddin, along with other MIM activists, allegedly entered into heated arguments with then Medak Collector A K Singhal and brutally manhandled him in the wake of demolition of a Masjid at Muttangi village near Patancheru in Medak district as part of widening of Hyderabad-Mumbai National Highway. Owaisi brothers had allegedly abused the Collector and local police inspector because they did not had the approval of Wakf. According to the Wakf Amendmend Bill 2010 PRS neither Govt nor a Business/Person can work on or claim Wakf Property without prior authorization from Wakf Board
