To pass face-control. Phil Collins

Imagine you are invited to some official event. For this matter your looks should be appropriate for the occasion. You should dress up according to generally accepted standards – not according to your own standards. The English singer Phil Collins had to experience it himself.

When Phil Collins was invited to his first reward ceremony, he worried very much how he was going to look. It was a reward ceremony, there would be presented the colour of musical world! Surely, he needed to dress up in decent clothes with some solemn notes. Phil headed to the shop and purchased suitable tail-coat so that he would conform to an image of prospering man.

The day of the ceremony didn’t begin so well. Phil Collins forgot where he left his car keys, then he tried to catch a taxi and it took him a while, after that a feather-headed driver drove him the wrong way and as a result Phil turned out in some unknown district. When he finally got to the right place, he was stopped by officers of Security Police right in front of the entrance. Collins was outraged. He told them his name and pointed out that it was included into the list of guests, and that the whole ceremony was dedicated to him. But giant officers advised him to get out of their way. Any further Phil’s attempts to solve a difficult and rather embarrassing situation only made those officers angrier.

Fortunately, at that moment arrived, and Robert Plant in person got out of it. Phil rushed to Plant and started explaining that he wasn’t allowed into the audience. As soon as Plant understood what had happened, he examined Collins’ clothes carefully and started laughing. Plant led a poor singer past the officers (still laughing, by the way), as he informed them that gentleman was with him.

Collins got to the ceremony just in time – he was immediately called on stage. When a beautiful girl gave him a prize statuette, he raised his prize up above his head and looked at the audience. People were just going crazy. There was a group of young men right near the stage; they were all covered with chains and other scrap metal. Lads were applauding and girls were screaming and Phil stood in his tail coat rooted to the ground and thought in shock: “Oh dear god, I must be so out of date!”

But a talented man can always benefit even from the most embarrassing situation. The next album of Phil Collins which was issued in 1985 was called “No Jackets Required”.
